New 1,329 MW Warren County power station enters commercial operation

The newest member of Dominion Virginia Power's electric generation fleet, 1,329MW natural gas-fired Warren County Power Station, has entered into commercial operation. The power station, located just north of Front Royal, Va., can produce enough electricity to power about 325,000 homes at peak demand. The $1.1 billion facility came in on time and under budget.
Alstom to service North Bangkok 2 combined cycle plant

Alstom has been selected by the Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT) to provide turnkey maintenance for two gas turbines at the North Bangkok combined-cycle power plant (CCPP) Block 2. Currently being constructed by Alstom in consortium with Sumitomo, the North Bangkok CCPP Block 2 is expected to be completed in 2016.
Iberdrola Engineering to build 674MW combined cycle plant in Salem, MA

Footprint Power of Bridgewater, New Jersey has hired Iberdrola USA’s sister company, Iberdrola Engineering and Construction to build a 674MW combined-cycle gas turbine (CCGT) electric generating plant in Salem, Massachusetts.
Siemens H-class turbines to power combined cycle plant in Poland

Siemens has bagged an order in Central Europe for the first time outside of Germany for turn-key erection of a combined cycle power plant to be equipped with the innovative Siemens H-Class gas turbine. PKN Orlen, Eastern Europe's mineral oil company is the customer for the 596 Megawatt (MWe) plant in Płock. Located around 100 kilometers northwest of the capital city of Warsaw, the plant is designed to be very flexible and can feed electricity into the national power grid.
Siemens hands over 242MW combined cycle plant in Australia

Siemens recently completed the commissioning of Australia’s industrial power station, the Diamantina, consisting of two combined cycle power blocks, performing at more than 50 percent efficiency. Situated in Mount Isa in Queensland, the Diamantina combined cycle power station has been built adjacent to the existing Mica Creek station. It has a total capacity of 242 MW, which is sufficient to supply eco-friendly electricity to local mines operated by Glencore and to people living in the region.
GE summit aims to make the industrial internet real

General Electric held its first Intelligent Platforms User Summit in Orlando, Florida in late October. It gathered together users and industry leaders to discuss the implications of the Industrial Internet. “If you went to bed last night as an industrial company, you are going to wake up in the morning as a software and analytics company,” said Jeff Immelt, GE’s Chairman and CEO. “It’s all about using sensors and controls to get real-time data. Who uses that data best is going to increasingly determine who succeeds.”
Dresser-Rand to commercialize Ener-Core’s Gradual Oxidation technology

Ener-Core, Inc., designer and manufacturer of proprietary Gradual Oxidizers, recently announced it has entered into a global licensing agreement with the Dresser-Rand Company to develop and market the Dresser-Rand KG2-3GEF two-MW gas turbine coupled with the Ener-Core oxidizer. The two companies will partner to market and sell the combined product to a variety of potential industrial customers including, coal mines, oil & gas refineries, oil & gas drilling sites, distilleries, food processing plants and landfills.
Man Diesel to supply steam turbine generator for waste-to-energy plant in the UK

MAN Diesel & Turbo will soon supply a steam-turbine generator set for a waste-to-energy plant in the UK. CNIM’S Environment Division, based in Vélizy in south-western Paris, is general contractor (EPC) for the Wilton 11 project. The contract also includes the supply of generator, condenser, lube-oil system and the complete instrumentation-and-control technology.
Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Ltd. (MHI) has completed development of the ‘Sayaringo STaGE,’ a next-generation LNG carrier. Developed as a successor to the ‘Sayaendo1,’ the company's LNG carrier evolved from carriers with Moss-type2 spherical tanks that are said to offer a high level of reliability. The adoption of apple-shaped tanks has enabled an approximate 16 percent increase in LNG carrying capacity without changing the ship's width. The incorporation of a hybrid propulsion system has boosted fuel efficiency by more than 20 percent compared to the Sayaendo.
