Metrix Setpoint recently announced that it has entered into an OEM partnership agreement with OSIsoft, producer of the PI System, the industry's real-time infrastructure for streaming data and events. Setpoint CMS software will use OSIsoft's PI System technology for its underlying data infrastructure.
The Metrix Setpoint system is said to be one of the first to use the PI System to archive the overall vibration trends, high-speed waveform data and 80ms fast trend data, eliminating the need for a separate, stand-alone condition monitoring software environment.
Setpoint hardware collects and streams high-speed, high-resolution data from any underlying vibration monitoring system for rotating and reciprocating machinery to the PI System. For this, Standard PI System visualization tools can be used, such as PI ProcessBookT and DataLinkT. The Setpoint CMS display application works with PI ProcessBook to support advanced visualizations such as spectrum, orbit, time-base, shaft centerline, polar and bode vibration plots.
In addition to eliminating redundant infrastructure, this real-time process data-vibration data combination is said to support earlier diagnosis of equipment issues. This is expected to help companies to better utilize assets, avoid unexpected failures, and reduce capital replacement costs.
The condition monitoring world has used a closed and proprietary software approach since its inception in the 1980s, said Randall Chitwood, Vice President, Metrix Setpoint. With the new approach, existing customers who already have PI System in their facility will now have “an integrated solution that delivers condition-based monitoring without the need for a separate software infrastructure.” They can extend their existing PI System to encompass their condition monitoring needs.
