French power equipment and train manufacturer Alstom SA recently signed a contract to supply equipment for 11 gas turbines to Libya's power utility General Electricity Company of Libya, or GECOL. The 11 turbines were originally provided by Alstom to five different power plant locations.
The delivery of parts for major inspections on six turbines is scheduled for 2013, whereas the remaining parts for the five turbines will be delivered in 2014. All the gas power plants will be operational and re-connected to the Libyan electrical grid, in order to provide enough power to cover the peak summer and winter demands for 2013.
This contract further strengthens Alstom's service offering and boosts its presence in the Middle East Africa region where upgrade and optimization of the region's installed base of power generation is a high priority.
