Italy’s Ansaldo Energia has recently won a contract for a 600MW gas plant in Egypt which the company says it will complete in 14 months. The plant will be built for the Cairo Electricity Production Company near the existing 6th October power station – also built by Ansaldo – in the suburbs of Cairo.
Ansaldo will supply four units equipped with four AE94.2 gas turbines plus generators and auxiliary systems, all designed and built at Ansaldo’s production facilities in Genoa. Earlier this week, Ansaldo sold two 270 MW RT-30 steam turbines plus air-cooled TRX-L56 turbogenerators to South Korea’s POSCO Engineering & Construction, which will install them at a new plant in Mejillones, Chile.
The company has also won a turnkey order in its domestic market from Italian grid operator Terna. Signed under a temporary companies’ association with ABB, the contract is for the design, installation, commissioning, testing and subsequent 10-year servicing and maintenance of a synchronous condenser plant to be built in Codrongianos, in Sassari.
