The company will deliver CO2 compression and monitoring technologies for the Sweetwater Carbon Storage Hub and gas turbines for power generation applications.

Baker Hughes, under a partnership with Frontier Infrastructure, will deliver its technologies and resources to large-scale carbon capture and storage (CCS), power generation, and data center projects. The partnership aims to accelerate the deployment of CCS projects and power solutions in the United States, satisfying the increased power demand in Wyoming, the Mountain West, and Texas. Baker Hughes expects orders as Frontier projects progress.

Power Demand & Data Centers

To meet the power demand driven by expanding data centers and industrial operations, Frontier Infrastructure is developing 256 MW of gas-fired, behind-the-meter power capacity. Baker Hughes will provide its industrial NovaLT gas turbines to support these power generation applications with reliability, flexibility, efficiency, and lower carbon operation.

“With energy demand rising across the country, industrial customers need scalable, low-carbon solutions, and Frontier’s expanded infrastructure will deliver exactly that,” said Robby Rockey, President and Co-CEO of Frontier Infrastructure. “By integrating gas-fired energy with the potential for permanent carbon storage, we are creating a direct, reliable power solution tailored to evolving industrial needs. Baker Hughes’ turbine technology, drilling services, and CCS innovation makes them an ideal partner in executing this vision.”

Sweetwater Carbon Storage Hub

Baker Hughes will also supply its well design, CO2 compression, and long-term monitoring technologies for Frontier’s Sweetwater Carbon Storage Hub (SCS Hub), in addition to future CCS projects. The SCS Hub is among the largest open-source carbon sequestration assets in the United States:

  • It spans approximately 100,000 acres in Wyoming
  • Designed to support industrial emitters and ethanol facilities across the Midwest
  • Uses a CO2-by-rail strategy

“Baker Hughes is committed to delivering solutions that support increasing energy demand, in part driven by the rapid adoption of AI, while ensuring we continue to enable the decarbonization of the industry,” said Lorenzo Simonelli, Chairman and CEO of Baker Hughes. “Working with Frontier Infrastructure represents a significant opportunity to demonstrate how Baker Hughes’ portfolio is positioned to support CCUS projects for lower-carbon industrial and energy development.”

Frontier obtained three Class VI permits and already began drilling activities on the initial wells, with first injection scheduled for year-end 2025. Baker Hughes’ technology and resources will help Frontier optimize project execution with improved efficiency and financial security.

More Baker Hughes News

In early February 2025, Baker Hughes announced two large-scale gas technology orders for Aramco’s Jafurah gas field and Venture Global LNG’s Plaquemines LNG and additional U.S.-based projects last week. The equipment orders and associated service agreements were both booked in Q4 2024 and announced prior to the 2025 Baker Hughes Annual Meeting.

Tecnicas Reunidas contracted Baker Hughes to deliver six gas compression trains and six propane compressors to Aramco’s Jafurah gas field, located in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. The electric motor-driven compression solutions will facilitate the gas plant and compressions facilities’ third expansion phase.

Baker Hughes’ equipment orders are aided by its recently expanded Industrial and Energy Technology Dammam Center. Previously, Baker Hughes supplied Aramco with compression solutions the Haradh and Hawiyah gas plants, Phase 1 of the Jafurah gas plant and gas compression facilities, and equipment for the third phase of Saudi Arabia’s Master Gas System project.
