Cryo-Mach will expand Dover's participation in liquified oxygen, argon, and nitrogen in the industrial gas and transportation markets.

Dover recently acquired Cryogenic Machinery Corp. (Cryo-Mach) for a non-disclosed price, expanding its cryogenic market presence with Cryo-Mach’s centrifugal pumps, mechanical seals, and related accessories. The acquired company will join PSG Dover’s Pumps & Process Solutions business.

"We are thrilled to add Cryo-Mach to our portfolio of pump businesses," said Karl Buscher, President of PSG. "This acquisition strengthens PSG's position within cryogenics and is consistent with our strategic approach of expanding our core and securing access to adjacent markets that enable sustainable, profitable growth."

Cryo-Mach, as a specialized designer and manufacturer of mission-critical equipment and components, allows Dover to participate in liquefied oxygen, argon, and nitrogen in the industrial gas and transportation markets. PSG Dover will add Cryo-Mach’s cryogenic centrifugal pump technology to its portfolio. The company is currently headquartered in North Hollywood, CA.

In early October 2023, Dover entered a $530 million definitive purchase agreement for the acquisition of FW Murphy Production Controls, a subsidiary of Genisys Controls. The transaction closed in Q4 2023 after obtaining regulatory approvals. FW Murphy joined Dover’s Precision Components unit within the Pumps & Process Solutions division.

Texas-based FW Murphy provides digital-twin predictive maintenance and performance optimization components, solutions, and instruments for reciprocating compressors and related drive systems. These products and solutions have been used in natural gas production, transportation, industrial use, and hydrogen and carbon-capture applications. The acquisition complements Dover’s Cook Compression product offerings and adds a host of digital compression technologies for remote monitoring. Dover will utilize FW Murphy to enter the market of predictive maintenance and reciprocating compressor optimization solutions.

Cryogenics Around the Industry

In July 2024, Svanehøj received a contract to provide cryogenic deepwell ammonia fuel pumps for eight bulk carriers owned by a maritime shipping and logistics group. The pumps will deliver a reliable fuel supply and are compatible with all liquefied gas fuels, including LNG, LPG, methanol, and ammonia. Svanehøj will deliver the first two pumps in 2024, fulfilling the complete order in 2025.

These commercial bulk carriers are, according to the company, the first vessels of their size capable of ammonia-fueled operation. They will be outfitted with a dual fueling system of traditional diesel oil and clean fuel. The fuel pumps enable the vessels to use ammonia and additional sustainable fuels.

And in August 2023, Elliott Group was awarded a contract by Bechtel Energy to supply cryogenic rotating equipment for the Port Arthur LNG Phase 1 project. Elliott supplied cryogenic pumps, expanders, boil-off gas compressors, and end flash gas compressors for the project located in Jefferson County, TX, which is being developed by Sempra Infrastructure. Elliott was awarded the contract to perform the detailed engineering, procurement, construction, commissioning, startup, performance testing, and operator training activities.
