Mitsubishi Hitachi Power Systems (MHPS) has received an order from Korea Petrochemical (KPIC) for the supply of a H-25 gas turbine and a generator.
Under the contract, MHPS will install turbine and generator in an in-house power generation plant at KPIC's Onsan ethylene plant located in Ulsan-Metropolitan City, southeastern Korea.
To facilitate increased ethylene production to 800,000 metric tons per annum (mtpa) from current 470,000 mtpa, KPIC is boosting power generation capacity of the plant. The power generation system is scheduled to be commissioned in June 2017. It is expected to supply power to help meet in-house demand.
The system is likely to provide high-temperature exhaust gas as fuel air to Naphtha Cracking Heaters for saving energy. The H-25 is designed to use methane off-gas derived from the ethylene plant as fuel to operate the plant.
In 2006, MHPS received an order for the H-25 gas turbine for the Onsan Plant. Established in 1970, KPIC manufactures and supplies petrochemical derivatives, such as propylene and ethylene as well as synthetic resins such as polypropylene (PP) and high-density polyethylene (HDPE).
