GridOS orchestration software will help Tensio AS and Linea AS manage energy demands with increased visibility, accelerated decision-making, and built-in security.

Over the next three years, One Grid Operation AS (OGO) will integrate GE Vernova’s GridOS orchestration software to create a more secure and dependable electricity supply for its Norwegian customers. The company’s owners, distribution system operators Tensio and Linea, will utilize a hybrid cloud strategy: an advanced distribution management system (ADMS) onsite and other GridOS apps using Amazon Web Services cloud.

“The energy landscape is getting more complex by the day,” said Audhild Kvam, CEO of Tensio, and Steinar Benum, CEO of Linea. “Demand for electricity is at an all-time high, extreme weather events are becoming more common, and renewable but intermittent energy sources are on the rise. To deal with these types of change drivers while continuing to deliver on the efficiency and security of our supply, we see the need to strengthen ourselves on the technology side. After a market assessment, we’re pleased to announce we’ve selected GE Vernova to support us in enabling smarter, better, more efficient management of our electricity supply and operations in the years to come.”

Using this GridOS format, OGO can satisfy energy demands with increased speed and agility by accessing more data, gaining visibility, and accelerating decision-making. Upon final integration, OGO will hand over grid control room services to Tensio and Linea.

“GE Vernova is delivering a new era of energy, and a key tenant of how we’re doing that is with our GridOS orchestration software,” said Mahesh Sudhakaran, General Manager of GE Vernova’s Grid Software business. “We’re proud to be the technology partner of choice for One Grid Operation. Our data integration team in Oslo and global power system experts look forward to advancing capabilities that’ll help Tensio and Linea deliver more secure, reliable, and sustainable electricity to their customers.”

About GridOS

The software features a platform and suite of applications to ensure secure, reliable grid management while providing the resiliency and flexibility required for utilities to modernize and transition toward a sustainable energy grid. GridOS includes:

  • Intelligent Grid Applications: The ADMS delivers the secure management of distribution grids, while the distributed energy resource management system handles a range of distributed energy resources including wind power, battery storage, electric vehicles, etc.
  • Grid-Specific Data Fabric: This allows operators to implement siloed data from operational technology, information technology, and external sources like weather. With this data, utilities can deploy AI and machine learning to automate grid operations and integrate renewables at scale. GridOS Data Fabric was enhanced by GE Vernova’s acquisition of Greenbird Integration Technology last year.
  • Security: GridOS has a built-in Zero Trust security model, protecting resources from internal and external dangers.

ThinkLabs AI

In May 2024, GE Vernova announced the launch of its first startup, ThinkLabs AI, which is focused on developing technology to enhance grid planning. ThinkLabs AI is developing a software application utilizing intelligent automation and AI to improve grid planning operations. The software is in its early stage and will complement GE Vernova’s GridOS software portfolio—a platform of AI and Power Systems-based applications designed for reliable, secure, and flexible grid orchestration for utilities.
