The international certification recognizes the efforts NuScale has put into enhancing its QMS.
NuScale Power Corporation, a nuclear small modular reactor (SMR) technology provider, has announced that it has been awarded the ISO 9001:2015 certification by Orion Register, an International Organization for Standardization (ISO) and industry-specific certification body. The certification was granted following an assessment of NuScale's quality management system (QMS).
Previously, NuScale had received approval for its quality assurance program from the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission under Title 10, Code of Federal Regulations, Appendix B / Nuclear Quality Assurance-1 (NQA-1) in 2011. Since 2019, the company has also maintained an N Certificate of Authorization issued by the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME). Both NQA-1 and the ASME N Certificate are widely recognized as benchmarks for nuclear quality programs.
Karin Feldman, Interim Chief Operating Officer/Chief Nuclear Officer, commented on the achievement, stating, "NuScale's ISO 9001:2015 certification further demonstrates our commitment to a strong quality program that can satisfy global standards for quality. Achieving this critical milestone recognizes the maturity of our QMS, with processes that are scalable and repeatable. We look forward to utilizing the QMS to meet customer and regulatory requirements globally."
NuScale Power Corporation specializes in small modular reactor nuclear technology and is focused on contributing to the global energy transition by providing safe, scalable, and reliable carbon-free energy. The company's VOYGR SMR plants utilize the NuScale Power Module, a compact pressurized water reactor capable of producing 77 MW of electricity or 250 MW thermal. These modules can be arranged in various configurations to produce up to 924 MWe (12 modules) of output.
