The joint venture aims to enhance reliable power supply in Saskatchewan, Canada, through the installation of gas turbines at two power stations.
SaskPower, the Saskatchewan Power Corporation, has commissioned Graham Black & Veatch, a joint venture between OCI, Black & Veatch's Canadian construction arm, and Graham Construction, to undertake the integration of one simple cycle gas turbine each at the Ermine Power Station near Kerrobert and the Yellowhead Power Station near North Battleford. The project encompasses the design, procurement, construction, and commissioning of these facilities along with pertinent equipment and enhancements.
As Saskatchewan gradually moves away from coal-fired power generation towards greater reliance on wind and solar power, these new installations will provide essential, efficient generation that aligns with the province's goals of reducing greenhouse gas emissions. The additions to the existing power stations will ensure a dependable, cost-effective baseload power for the province.
"Combining Black & Veatch’s technical studies, consulting and design-build expertise with Graham's experience in plant construction services for SaskPower, we're delivering a unique blend of capabilities that ensures these communities have a quick and efficient new energy source," commented Laszlo von Lazar, President of Energy and Process Industries for Black & Veatch.
Black & Veatch has completed over 1,000 projects across various sectors in Canada such as power, oil and gas, telecommunications, renewables, clean transportation, water, and wastewater treatment, and the environment.
Meanwhile, Graham operates in Canada and the United States, with an extensive range of projects in areas like energy, power, water, and the environment. Boasting over nine decades of experience, Graham currently has more than 500 active projects across North America.
Cecil Dawe, Executive Vice President, Industrial for Graham, said, "Our joint venture merges Graham's local knowledge and prior experience at these sites with Black & Veatch's power expertise and familiarity with EPC contracting. This collaboration will provide SaskPower's customers with a reliable, resilient energy source for many years to come."
