Scottish Engineering recognises RWG’s contribution to engineering excellence

RWG received the prestigious 2018 Scottish Engineering Award in recognition of a significant contribution towards raising industry standards and being a standard bearer for the engineering manufacturing sector in Scotland.

 This award, presented last week at Scottish Engineering’s annual awards dinner held at Glasgow’s Hilton Hotel is highly competitive, with nominated companies representing some of the most innovative and successful organisations in Scotland.

 Paul Sheerin, Chief Executive Officer, Scottish Engineering commented; “Nominated companies for this award were subjected to a rigorous review which looked for outstanding achievement in many areas of business, including financial performance, investment in people, technology and innovation. We were greatly impressed by the achievements of RWG, their market leading position in gas generator repair and overhaul and resilience in the face of a severe downturn experienced in the oil & gas industry. Of particular merit is RWG’s commitment to the circular economy and their capability to re manufacture high technology, performance critical components found within high speed rotating equipment.”

Gas generators provide an essential source of energy for RWG’s customers in the power generation and oil & gas industry. Maintaining asset reliability and performance are success factors for service companies such as RWG, however the impact of low commodity prices has focused our customer’s attention on the lifecycle cost of equipment operation. In response RWG has invested in remanufacturing technology and process capability, offering services to repair rather than replace high-cost gas generator components. The ability to reuse many gas generator components during the overhaul process lowers individual maintenance event costs and asset ownership costs for our customers. It’s a great differentiator for RWG, securing repeat business and providing continuity of employment for our team of over 500 people.”       

 RWG overhauls approximately 160 gas generators per annum within dedicated services centres located in the UK, North America and Asia, each providing high quality employment opportunities for their respective communities. Overhauling, documenting and testing of such equipment generates close to a million manhours of labour each year. Gas generators disassembly exposes thousands of high technology components, each requiring some degree of remanufacture and processing before return to service. To cope with this volume of activity RWG employs more than 100 people within their specialist Component Technology Division and has invested in comprehensive in-house remanufacturing processes such as component cleaning, inspection, metal joining, heat treatment, machining and protective coating capability.
