Siemens has won the order for supply of a single-shaft power island with H-Class technology for the Samsun Cengiz Enerji combined-cycle power plant in Turkey. The customer, Cengiz Enerji Sanayi ve Ticaret A.S., is an independent power production (IPP) company which will build and operate the plant.
With the SGT5-8000H and its core component, the plant will feature an installed capacity of approximately 600 MW and an efficiency of almost 61 per cent. This will make Cengiz's Plant in Samsun the most efficient fossil-fired power plant in Turkey. Commissioning is scheduled for early 2015 and the total order volume, which includes a long-term service contract, will be almost EUR300 million.
Cengiz Enerji's Samsun combined-cycle power plant is located east of Samsun, the largest city in the Black Sea Region of Turkey. It operates on natural gas and has an installed capacity of around 600 MW. The Siemens scope of supply comprises a power island which includes an SGT5-8000H gas turbine, an SST5-5000 steam turbine and an SGen5-3000W generator. Siemens will also supply a Benson heat recovery steam generator, the electrical system, the SPPA-T3000 control system, and auxiliary and ancillary systems.
Siemens has also signed a long-term service contract for the equipment, which will help reduce emissions, and ensure reliability and availability of the plant. The power plant will be configured as a single-shaft plant. Plants of this kind are very flexible and designed for 250 starts per year. They are capable of producing full load in 30 minutes after six hours shutdown. Furthermore, they react very quickly to grid fluctuations and can adapt their output by more than 35 MW within one minute, to meet the changing power requirements.
