Toshiba Corporation recently announced that it has received an order to supply a 472MW steam turbine and generator (STG) for the Allen combined cycle power plant being constructed by the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA), the power utility owned by the US government. The STG is scheduled to be delivered in October 2016, and the plant is expected to come on line in June 2018.
The combined cycle power plant that is likely to improve generating efficiency by deploying both gas turbines and a steam turbine is being constructed to comply with state and federal clean air act agreements. With this order, Toshiba has reached the milestone of a cumulative total for 100 orders for STG in North America.
Since its supply of the first steam turbine to North America in 1967, Toshiba has continued to win orders and secured the top share of orders for nine consecutive years from 2003 to 2011 in the USA. In 2014, construction of combined cycle power plants increased to replace existing coal-fired power plants, and Toshiba again won the top share of orders by winning multiple STG orders for new plants.
