Rolls-Royce announced recently that two of its Trent 60 gas turbines have successfully entered service at Power and Water Corporation’s Channel Island Power Station in Australia’s Northern Territory. The gas turbine units are each capable of providing up to 58 megawatts of electrical power, when operating with water injection, and in combination have boosted the electricity generation capacity of the Darwin-Katherine power system by nearly 25 per cent.
The announcement was made in conjunction with a visit to the power station by Rob Knight MLA, Minister for Essential Services, Northern Territory Government of Australia to mark the official start of the gas turbines’ operation. The units were successfully installed within PWC’s program schedule and entered into commercial operation in November 2011.
