GE announced recently that the first turbine of Al-Khaleej steam power plant has been brought into operation. The turbine generates 350MW that is likely to help reduce the blackouts in Tripoli. The plant, 30 kilometres west of Sirte, Libya, was closed down in June 2015, and was recaptured one year later.
Al-Khaleej steam power plant project involves the construction of a power plant firing natural gas and heavy and light fuel oils, comprising four turbines. Engineered by South Korean firms Hyundai and Doosan, each turbine will be rated at a nominal gross of 350MW for a total of 1400MW.
