This partnership follows the commissioning of GAIL's green hydrogen plant, in which Accelera supplied a 10-MW proton exchange membrane electrolyzer system.

Cummins’ Accelera and GAIL signed an agreement to explore hydrogen production, blending, transportation, and storage opportunities, accelerating green hydrogen and zero-emissions technologies in India. Accelera will combine its hydrogen generation technology with GAIL's established natural gas infrastructure to evaluate and develop hydrogen projects across the transport, power, and steel industries.

"Accelera’s collaboration with a partner like GAIL demonstrates the potential of green hydrogen and the capability of large-scale electrolysis for diverse applications," said Alex Savelli, Global Commercial Leader – Electrolyzers for Accelera. "By combining our advanced electrolyzer technology with GAIL's extensive energy infrastructure and market presence, we are positioned to accelerate the adoption of green hydrogen across India."

The collaboration will also transfer knowledge regarding hydrogen-natural gas blending to develop industry standards and assess new applications for green hydrogen technology.

Previous Partnership

This partnership follows the commissioning of GAIL's green hydrogen plant in 2024, in which Accelera supplied a 10-MW proton exchange membrane (PEM) electrolyzer system comprised of two HyLYZER-1000 units. The system produced 4.3 tons of green hydrogen per day, which was then blended with natural gas to power GAIL’s on-site operations. Accelera’s technology also powers a 20-MW facility in Quebec, Canada, and a 25-MW system in Florida.

"Building upon the successful implementation of our Vijaipur project, this partnership with Accelera strengthens our commitment to India's National Green Hydrogen Mission,” said Rajeev Kumar Singhal, Director of Business Development, GAIL. “Together, we will work towards developing a hydrogen value chain that supports India's goal of producing 5 million tons of green hydrogen annually by 2030."

In late January 2025, Cummins signed an agreement to use its natural gas variable-speed engine to power Liberty Energy’s digiPrime hydraulic fracturing platform, and the solution will be deployed before June 2025. The partnership improved the HSK78G natural gas engine’s response time and load acceptance during operation, offering reliable power, increased efficiency, and lower operational costs for the digiPrime fracking platform.

The Cummins engine was launched in March 2019 under a fixed-speed generator set portfolio for the power generation market, but the HSK78G base engine’s primary benefits for the well-servicing industry are adaptability and flexibility. It can tolerate methane content fluctuations in its fuel and uses various gas compositions, delivering flexibility in the field. With adaptability across multiple well-servicing transmissions and front power take-off, the engine provides supports auxiliary power needs when operating below peak load.

And in late 2023, Cummins Arabia formed a business alliance with Sullivan Palatek Asia (SPA) to introduce diesel-driven portable air compressors in the United Arab Emirates market. The exclusive distribution of SPA’s portable air compressor will be managed by Cummins Arabia, as per the agreement. The alliance will introduce a number of SPA products to the MEA/GCC markets, including the DOF1750H portable oil-free compressor and other models tailored to regional demands.

SPA’s portfolio contains a range of compressors designed to withstand harsh operating conditions in the Middle East, and Cummins Arabia will deploy its sales and service network to distribute the product. A majority of the SPA diesel-driven compressors are powered by Cummins engines, allowing Cummins Arabia to perform end-to-end support for the compressor and the engine while eliminating the need for a third-party service.
