GE's first mobile aeroderivative installed in Latin America

GE recently announced that it will provide its mobile aeroderivative technology power plants for two turnkey projects in Bolivia to help address the country's growing demand for power. GE will provide its TM2500+ aeroderivative gas turbines for each project to Empresa Electrica Valle Hermoso, a subsidiary of the government entity Empresa Nacional de Electricidad (ENDE). Additionally, GE Energy's Digital Energy business will provide the electrical and mechanical balance of plant services for both projects.

Gustavo Ramos Terán, CEO of Empresa Electrica Valle Hermoso, "There is a power emergency in Bolivia, and consequently, we have a need for fast, reliable power. GE was able to help us meet this need in a project that is providing 24 megawatts of power in just 90 days."

For one project, GE shipped its TM2500+ aeroderivative gas turbine mobile power plant to Carrasco, located near the City of Santa Cruz, in late September. Commercial operation will begin in mid-November. The equipment for the second project at Kenko, located near La Paz, shipped in late September, with commercial operation planned for February 2012.

GE's TM2500+ technology incorporates the lightweight design of its LM2500+ aeroderivative gas turbine with the Brush 170ER generator. It is packaged on a two-trailer system with a top-mounted air inlet filter and exhaust assemblies requiring 77 percent less space than the TM2500 core offering. Both the inlet filter assembly and the exhaust duct are mounted directly on top of the main trailer assembly, allowing for easier transport by ship, air or road to even the most remote locations. The improved TM2500+ design offers an increased number of quick-disconnect fittings to simplify and accelerate the installation process, which can enable assembly and set-up in just one day.

The TM2500+ can operate on either natural gas or liquid distillate fuels and easily converts from 50 to 60 Hz. It also offers low emissions, easy operation and maintenance, and fast deployment.
