Equinor Energy AS will receive three compressor bundles and two spare units for its Troll A platform off the coast of Norway.
MAN Energy Solutions has been awarded a contract from Equinor Energy AS to deliver three compressor bundles and two additional spare units as replacements for compressors installed by a previous OEM. These compressor bundles will be installed within existing outer casings on Equinor’s Troll A platform, which is one of three platforms currently operating in the Troll field.
“We are proud that Equinor has once again put their trust in our technology and expertise. Thanks to the reliability of our RB compressor technology, we are delivering a re-bundling concept using proven components,” said Oliver Tromm, Head of Product Center Zurich at MAN Energy Solutions. “Through our bundle retrofits, we can also enhance compressor performance for the long term. This project is a result of our longstanding cooperation with Equinor where we have demonstrated the capabilities of our energy-efficient technology solutions in numerous projects, such as the subsea compressor systems operating in the Åsgard field since 2015.”
The Troll field, operated by Equinor, is located 65 miles off the coast of Kollsnes, Norway and lies at a water depth of approximately 300 meters. Gas reserves in the Troll field account for 40% of the gas contained in the Norwegian continental shelf (NCS) and supplied more than 10% of consumed gas in the EU during 2022.
Altered operating conditions will require a complete re-design of the aerodynamic flow path within the existing outer casings. MAN Energy’s after-sales brand, MAN PrimeServ, will provide an engineered solution for the mechanical and aero-thermodynamic revamping of three compressors to meet restrictions presented by performance, space, and delivery time.
As per the agreement, MAN Energy will supply crucial components such as the centrifugal rotor, inner casing with internals, bearings, and dry gas seals for installation on third-party casings. In addition to supplying compressor components, MAN Energy will provide full engineering and project management services during project execution, as well as on-site services for bundle exchange and commissioning on the Troll A platform. The initial compressor bundle is expected to be delivered in Q2 of 2025.
