MHI bags Thai order for 1,600 MW gas turbine project

Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Ltd. recently received a turnkey order from a unit of Japan's Electric Power Development Co. to build a gas turbine combined cycle power generation plant in the Thai province of Ayutthaya. The 1,600-MW project is aimed at hiking power supply to meet Thailand's growing power demand stemming from its economic growth, the company said.

minor-latin;mso-hansi-theme-font:minor-latin">Under the transaction, the company is expected to make and supply four gas turbines and two steam turbines to the plant to be built 70 kilometers north of Bangkok, while Mitsubishi Electric Corp. will supply six generators. The plant's two 800-MW generation units are to go on-stream in June and December of 2015.

MHI has made a transaction with Gulf JP UT Co., 90 percent of which is owned by Electric Power Development, known as J-Power. Civil and installation work is said to be handled by Sino-Thai Engineering and Construction Public Co., a local construction firm.
